    Upgrading and Operation of "ODYSSEUS" Portal

The general objectives

Aim of work is the implementation of infrastructures and the guarantee of conditions for the central systematic and reliable communication of Greek Culture in the Internet globally, via her continuation, the development and the permanent extension of previous informational node of Ministry of Culture in the internet, the node "ODYSSEUS".
The new node of ODYSSEUS (ODYSSEUS portal), is mainly one node that has communicational, educational, recreational, tourist and more widely social and cultural character with wider dimension and impression. This node, aims mainly in the world electronic visitor and constitutes the most important means for the diffusion and the designation of our culture in the digital age. ODYSSEUS contributes with a unique way in the exploitation of more important comparative advantage of country worldwide. The further development, extension and guarantee of the operational and functional viability of portal -as for this particular and unique cultural character- constitute the final aim of project.
This aim is consistent completely and exclusively with the aim of foundation of Hellenic Culture Organization (H.C.O.), the institution that was recommended by Hellenic Ministry of Culture, in order to face effectively the challenges and to cope with the cultural competition that creates the globalization.


History of project

The node operated for the first time in 1995. In 1997, with a further technological development it was presented in the form that functioned up to April 2007. From 1997 until 2001 the development of node concerned in the updating of his content.
The node of "ODYSSEUS", from 2001 has passed in the next phase of his upgrading, in the frames of project "Upgrade and Operation of ODYSSEUS portal".


The object of project
The object of project concisely is:
  • The implementation of infrastructures for the guarantee of operation of portal from the H.C.O.
  • The production of design of development and study of application
  • The supply of equipment and software for support and content management
  • The design of graphics and operations of node
  • The development of software and services
  • The collection, the production, the redaction and the translation of content
  • The digitalization and digital process of content
  • The development and updating of web page

    • This object is organized in two sub-projects
    The first sub-project has title "Development of infrastructures and mechanism for the guarantee of operation of portal, production of content for the B and C phase" and is implemented by the H.C.O.
    The second sub-project, has title "Preparation of design of development and study of technological and functional upgrade and extension of portal - Technological and functional upgrade of portal ODYSSEUS - Production of cultural content of portal in other languages (English, French, Spanish and Chinese)" and is implemented by exterior Contractor.
