The Museum was founded in 1937 on the initiative of Loukia Zygomalas (1866-1947) and has since operated in the exhibition space that was added for this purpose to the country house of the Zygomalas family.

The re-exhibition took place in 1990 and the museum?s opening in July 1991.

From 1991 until 2022 the Museum operated under the supervision of the Directorate of Modern Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture. In 2022 it was placed under the supervision of the Museum of Modern Greek Culture.

In the exhibition space, representative works of the students of the embroidery schools founded by Loukia Zygomala are presented, accompanied by authentic components of traditional costume, as well as designs and samples of patterns in various variations.

Also on display are material documents related to the operation of the schools and the activity of the consortium, such as the company's logo, order books, income and expenditure books, patents for the decorative designs, as well as tools of the embroidery art.

The exhibition also includes furniture with embroidered fabrics, lampshades, etc. In a symbolic representation of the pavilion of the Greek delegation at the Paris Decorative Arts Exhibition in 1925, the items that were awarded prizes are displayed.

Finally, personal objects and photographic material of the life and activity of Lucia Zygomalas' son, Andreas Zygomalas, are presented.

In the area of the house itself, selected pieces of the house, small objects, family photographs and portraits are exhibited, thus highlighting the space in which the "good lady of Avlona" lived for more than 20 years.
