The museum was built in the 1960's, by the Technical Services of the Ministry of Education. In 1972, the finds from the excavations at Nicopolis were put on display and a storeroom was built near the museum, to house the sculpture and finds not included in the exhibition. A new, larger museum is planned to be constructed soon.
