The museum is Loukia Zygomala’s life’s work. After the death of her son, Andreas, who was killed as a reserve lieutenant in the North-Epirus struggle, Lukia Zygomala dedicated herself to the revival and dissemination of the art of embroidery, thus offering work to women in schools that she founded at her own expense in various villages of Attica.

After her death, the Museum’s administration, according to her will, passed on to the Ministry of Culture and has since remained open to the public from time to time.

Today, the residence and the exhibition space form a museum, under the supervision of Museum of Modern Greek Culture, which houses the household items and the embroidery collection of its founder.
