The archaeological collection of Ierapetra is housed currently at the building of the Ottoman school. It started being formed at the end of the 19th century as an initiative of the Ierapetra Philekpaideutikos ("Friends of Education") Society with the purpose of collecting and preserving the antiquities of the area.
