The monastery is some 25 kilometres from the town of Zakynthos. It was built in the middle of the 15th century. The peribolos is formed by the surrounding buildings and it has an entrance roofed with a hemi-cylindrical dome.

A tower, rectangular in plan, is connected with the entrance gate for defensive purposes.

The church preserves wall paintings from its first building phase.
