The archaeological site of Arkasa, one of the four demes of classical antiquity, consists of the acropolis of Palaiokastro with remnants of Archaic fortification strengthened by towers of the Classical and Hellenistic period. Substantial remains of other buildings including water cisterns also survive in a good state of preservation.
