This is part of rectangular relief, which is a typical example of Gandhara art. It frequently incorporated images from Buddhist iconography and produced a mixture of local elements and Hellenistic Greek motifs. The relief has a few cracks on its surface, while the upper part is missing. It is divided in two pieces with a lattice. The lower part depicts the death of Buddha, the preparation for his cremation and a number of other burial rituals. The upper part illustrates Hindu gods who are watching the procedure seated on a stand with a curtain at the back transforming it into a stupa (Buddhist spiritual monument). The scene is illustrated according to the Indian style, while it appears to be influenced by the early Buddhist relieves found in stupas of the 3rd century in Barhut and Sanhi, where the god was only signified through symbols.
