View of the inscribed throne of the consul Gorgos
Honorary seats of the Consuls Gorgos and Euphanios

Two stone seats for distinguished guests, from the Archaic stadium of Olympia. They are rectangular in shape with a raised band on the two narrow sides. Inscriptions, survive on the upper surface along the four sides of both seats. They inform us that the seats belonged to the Lacedaemonian Consuls Gorgos and Euphanios. It is known that there were no seats in the stadium of Olympia and the spectators were sitting on the ground. It seems, however, that there were a few stone honorary seats for distinguished viewers.
