Permanent exhibition of the Archaeological Museum of Lemnos

The main aspect of the vessel decorated by scenes from Amazonomachy
Black-figure column krater

This column krater is a beautiful example of the black-figure technique. The vessel depicts an Amazonomachy on the obverse with Heracles holding a sword as the main character. The reverse of the vessel is decorated with a scene illustrating a number of people greeting farewell to a warrior. Both scenes are framed by painted ivy leaves and tongue-shaped motifs. The decoration around the rim is organized in layers of ivy leaves and animals such as lions and a deer. Moreover, palmettes cover the area underneath the handles, while the neck remains undecorated.
