Horse-shaped toy

This horse-shaped toy is one of the most important and impressive finds. The particular item was discovered at the cemetery of Lefkandi and informs us about less known aspects of the private life in antiquity. It is wheel-made, and it is preserved in a very good condition. The toy-horse carries two small amphorae on his back. It is covered with a dark slip and bears relief decoration on its mane and a linear decoration on its tail. The horse is placed on a wheelbase, which consists of shafts connected to four large wheels, and it can thus roll. The object comes from Attica and confirms the prevalence of Attic pottery workshops in the Greek market during the Protogeometric period.
