Permanent Collection of the Archaeological Collection of Lidoriki

View of a chest with decorative apliquos
Inlays from a small chest

Decorative inlays from the exterior of a wooden chest. The chest was probably used by the women who resided at the “House of Archive” in the Hellenistic city of Kallion. Inlays with incised decoration covered four sides of the chest. On the top an inlay portrayed the head of Medusa with snakes and floral patterns, while the corner inlays depicted female figures. The front side displayed a symposium scene of three people, probably Ariadne, Dionysus and a young satyr. Moreover, the inlays of the narrow sides show heraldic griffins devouring a pray.
