Samurai Armor

This is the upper part of an impressive Samurai armour that stands out for its shape and elaborate decoration. It comes from Japan and was part of the Gregorios Manos collection. The armor is made of brass and a variety of other semiprecious materials. Some parts of it are handmade, while others have been constructed with the aide of a matrix. The armor consists of a helmet with a chocker, a protective vest, parts for the upper limbs, two swords and a personal fan. The helmet and the vest bear an impressive decoration of relief patterns and inset semiprecious materials. The armor dates from the Edo period (1615-1868A.D.), which is considered to be the last noteworthy phase of traditional Japanese culture.
