Kyathos of the Nabeshima style
This is a beautiful, small and shallow Japanese kyathos (drinking cup). It is decorated in an impressive style and was part of the great collection of Gregorios Manos. It is made of white porcelain and decorated with flowers made of multicolored glazing of the Nabeshima style. Japanese porcelain is divided into different groups according to the place or the workshop it was made in. In 1628 the ruler of Nabeshima founded a pottery workshop, which produced items only for the aristocrats of the area. The Nabeshima style is characterized by the bright blue enamel placed under the glazing, as well as by a number of enamels in different colors (green, blue, cyan, etc), which are placed on top of the glazing. This kyathos is a magnificent example of the Nabeshima style because it bears flowers of blue enamel on the outside, combined with leaves and flowers of green, blue and orange enamel on the inside.
