Vase with the protome (bust) of Isis in high relief
This is an elegant vessel used to store perfumes. It is preserved in a fragmentary condition. The relief bust of goddess Isis is the centerpiece on the obverse of the vase. The head of the goddess down to the neck and parts of her garment with folded drapes are preserved. On the rear of the vessel there is a handle and an engraved inscription in capital letters “OF NARCISSOS”. This is most likely the signature of the potter. The surface of the vessel was covered with a brownish-red paint of which only traces survive. Vessels of this type, representing goddess Isis in relief, were common during the Roman period, a time during which the cult of Egyptian deities spread widely in Greece.
