Grave relief representing a funerary meal
The particular grave relief has the shape of a small chapel (naiskos), and is decorated with a scene from a funerary meal. A half-naked man reclining on a bed at the center of the scene holds a kantharos (drinking vessel) in his left hand and rests his right hand on the shoulder of a seated woman. The latter, probably his wife, turns her head towards the man, and holds a wreath. Her legs, covered by the chiton (light robe, usually made of linen) and the himation (mantle), are placed on a footstool. The couple is surrounded by two smaller figures. The first is a female figure seated on a throne picking up some food from the table in front of her. The second figure is a naked male slave who stands and holds an oinochoe in one hand and an unidentified object in the other. On the upper left corner is a depiction of a horse's head in low relief placed inside a metope.
