The two preserved tholos tombs, which were discovered by the archeologist N. Zapheiropoulos in 1956-1957, contained many important and interesting finds. They belonged to officials of an importantand strong Mycenaean establishment, the settlement remains of which have not yet come to light.

The area of Katarraktis, from which the pass from the plains of the Dymaian region to the mountainous hinterland of Kalavryta could be monitored, apparently drew interest for other establishments too, as early as Middle Helladic times (17th century B.C.) and throughout the entire Mycenaean period (15th √ 12th centuries B.C.). Evidence for these establishments have come to light at the localities Pyrgaki, Andreousi, Drakotrypa, Ayios Athanasios and Ayios Georghios.
